No More Online Poker in Philippines?

Philippines media reports that legislation that sounds similar to America’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has been proposed by Narciso Santiago of the minority Alliance for Rural Concerns party. He proposed that gambling on the internet be made illegal, except for licensed horse race betting.gambling

The proposed legislation would make it illegal for anyone running a gambling operation to use the Internet or any other interactive computer service to place, receive, or otherwise make a bet or wager.

The proposed law recommends strong penalties fines equal to the amount received as bets, those found violating the proposed law would be fined the equivalent of the amount received as bets.
